Marketing Communications:
Media Relations Intern

Marketing Communications is responsible for the creative development and implementation of promotional, media and community relations activities to develop and broaden audiences for Museum programs, exhibitions and special events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undertaking a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Communication, Public Relations or related field.
  • Have basic public or media relations experience or coursework.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES OR DESCRIPTION:

  • Maintain media clipping database, entering major clips by subject.
  • Paste-up, copy and organize press clippings.
  • Draft media advisories and calendar and press releases.
  • Keep media contact database up-to-date.
  • Manage mass mailings of releases.
  • Pitch reporters for article inclusion and attendance at media previews.

INTERNSHIP PERIOD:
The time period is flexible but requires a minimum four month commitment and at least 10 hours per week.

EXPECTATIONS:

  • The intern is expected to:
    • Gain an understanding of media relations
    • Improve writing skills and familiarity with media relations tools
