Crocker Art Museum Debuts Second Saturday for Kids on July 10 with “Coolsville! A Fifties Bash”

May 17, 2004 – The Crocker Art Museum debuts Second Saturday for Kids on July 10 from 12 – 3 p.m. with Coolsville! A Fifties Bash to celebrate a culture gone-by. Activities are free with Museum admission and include: family tours of 1950s abstract art; a screening of the film, Dr. Seuss’ The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T.; activities to make and play games popular in the 50s; 50s cars restored to original condition courtesy of the Towe Auto Museum; music by Elvis; take a free shuttle to the Towe to see more classic cars; and attendees are encouraged to wear 50s-inspired clothing.

“The Second Saturday Art Walk has introduced thousands of adults to Sacramento ’s expanding art community. We wanted to pay tribute to that while offering a program for the whole family,” said Lial Jones, Director of the Crocker Art Museum . “This series of programs will give kids their own Second Saturdays and help parents to introduce their children to art.”

Crocker’s Second Saturdays will feature a variety of family-friendly activities. “Although activities will vary each month, parents can count on there always being something new and interesting happening at the Crocker on Second Saturday afternoons,” said Emma Moore, Youth & Family Program Coordinator for the Museum. Each month will have a theme, often tied to the Crocker’s current exhibits. Activities will include: gallery tours, hands-on projects for all ages, festival formats with a range of music and performance entertainment, or more in-depth art classes, Moore added.
