FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE California Artists Showcased The Crocker-Kingsley: California’s Biennial January 28, 2005- Sacramento, Calif.- Showcasing both established and emerging artists in California, the Crocker Art Museum will host the 74th competitive exhibition The Crocker-Kingsley: California’s Biennial from January 29 to March 13. This exhibit will display 66 contemporary artworks in a wide array of media – painting, photography, sculpture and craft. These works demonstrate the vibrant art scene throughout California, as 900 artists submitted more than 2,000 works for this competitive exhibit. The juror, internationally renowned artist Mel Ramos, selected 66 works from 65 artists which he felt were the “most fresh and original.” The Crocker-Kingsley presents an excellent opportunity to see various artistic developments in California within a diverse context of artists and mediums. Among the 65 artists selected to display their works, five artists have received awards for the exceptional quality and excellence of their artworks. Deladier Almeida, from Davis , was awarded the Best of Show for her work in oil on linen, titled Clayton Bailey at Home. Laurie Curran, from Mill Valley, received First Place for her work in oil on canvas, titled Restaurant 1. Second Place was awarded to Mark Butler of Richmond for his work in acrylic on canvas, titled Instinct. Mark Bowles of Orangevale was awarded Third Place for his work in acrylic on canvas, titled Landscape Study #40. Lastly, Erin Brookey, from Santa Rosa, received Honorable Mention for her sculptural work of bag, tape, cord and wood, titled Chronicle. Visitors to the Museum between January 29 and February 25 will have the opportunity to vote for the work they believe is deserving of the People’s Choice Award. The winner will be posted on the Crocker’s website on February 28. # # # The Crocker Art Museum was founded in 1885 and continues as the leading art institution for the California Capital Region and Central Valley. The Museum offers a diverse spectrum of special exhibitions, events and programs to augment its collections of Californian, European and Asian artworks. The Crocker is located at 216 O Street in downtown Sacramento.
