New Grant Brings Crocker's Education Programs to San Joaquin, Solano & Yolo Counties

May 1, 2007 – Sacramento, Calif. – With a new grant of nearly $140,000 from the Frank H. and Eva B. Buck Foundation, the Crocker Art Museum will be able to expand its arts education programs to schools in San Joaquin, Solano and Yolo counties over the next three academic years, beginning in 2007-08.

“The Crocker is delighted to be awarded this grant,” said Lial Jones, Museum Director. “With decreased funding for arts education in school districts across California, it’s important that the Crocker be able to reach out to the surrounding communities that cannot come to the Crocker.”

The Museum will dedicate one month out of the school year to each county, during which the Art Ark, the Crocker’s mobile Museum, will visit several K-8 schools and one community-based organization free of charge. Additionally, teachers in each community will gain skills for incorporating the Crocker’s collection to other curricular areas during free professional development workshops that utilize the Museum’s new school curriculum guide, Striking Gold: Mining the Resources of the Crocker Art Museum.

Teachers in San Joaquin, Solano and Yolo counties who are interested in participating in this free program can call (916) 264-1962.

The Crocker Art Museum was founded in 1885 and continues as the leading art institution for the California Capital Region and Central Valley. The Museum offers a diverse spectrum of special exhibitions, events and programs to augment its collections of California, European and Asian artworks. The Crocker is located at 216 O Street in downtown Sacramento. Museum hours are 10 AM–5 PM, Tuesday–Sunday; Thursday until 9 PM. For more information on exhibits and events call (916) 264-5423 or visit crockerartmuseum.org.

The Frank H. and Eva B. Buck Foundation supports education in Napa, Solano, Yolo, Sacramento, San Joaquin and Contra Costa counties.
