FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Crocker Receives $325,000 Grant Museum one of 15 arts organizations October 12, 2007 – Sacramento, Calif. – The Crocker Art Museum has been awarded a grant of $325,000 from the James Irvine Foundation. The Museum is one of 15 arts organizations in the Central Valley to receive funding as part of the Foundation’s Arts Regional Initiative, which enables arts organizations to respond to shifting demographics and funding challenges. The Museum will use the grant, distributed over three years, for board, staff and audience development. “The Crocker is very excited to be awarded this grant, which is one of the largest in our history,” said Lial Jones, Director Crocker Art Museum. “The timing for a grant to help build capacity at the Crocker is impeccable, as we are undergoing an expansion project that will span all facets of the organization. The Irvine Foundation Grant will better position us for success as we open in 2010.” Five arts organizations in the Sacramento region received funding through the Irvine Foundation grant. In addition to the Crocker, the Magic Circle Theatre in Roseville, the Sacramento Ballet, the Sacramento Opera Company and the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra were awarded grants. The Crocker Art Museum was founded in 1885 and continues as the leading art institution for the California Capital Region and Central Valley. The Museum offers a diverse spectrum of special exhibitions, events and programs to augment its collections of California, European and Asian artworks. The Crocker is located at 216 O Street in downtown Sacramento. Museum hours are 10 AM–5 p.m., Tuesday–Sunday; Thursday until 9 p.m. For more information on exhibits and events call (916) 264-5423 or visit crockerartmuseum.org.
