FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Crocker Classical Concerts Feature Concerts now held on CSUS campus due to construction at the Museum January 25, 2008 – Sacramento, Calif. – The Crocker Art Museum showcases far more than visual art. For more than 50 years, the Museum has hosted internationally renowned and talented local musicians for Crocker Classical Concerts. Due to construction for the Museum’s expansion, the concerts now take place on the California State University, Sacramento, campus in Capistrano Hall. Concerts are held on the fourth Sunday of every month from 3-4 p.m. and are free to members of the Crocker Art Museum, $12 for nonmembers and $5 for students and seniors. Free parking is available in Parking Structure I, which is adjacent to the Hall. The Winter-Spring 2008 season offers a varied schedule highlighting different musical periods, styles and instrumentation. On January 27, accomplished pianist Caroline Oltmanns will play a number of pieces from her vast repertoire, which includes Bach, Hayden, Chopin and Bartók. The ensemble Blessed Assurance will celebrate an American legend by performing special works that honor the life of the famous poet and composer, Langston Hughes, on February 24. On March 16, Brocelïande will play Celtic music from the British Isles and the Medieval and Renaissance music of European castles and countrysides, with a repertoire including joyous dance tunes, haunting ballads and four-part a capella madrigals. Confluentes, comprised of flutist Cathie Apple, violinist Charles Spruill IV, cellist Tim Stanley and harpsichordist Alex Ives, will perform Baroque works by Bach, Couperin and Telemann on period instruments. Pianist Andrei Baumann, who is currently completing a Master of Music in Piano Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, performs on May 18. His performances in Canada, Germany and the United States have garnered international praise. Mezzo-soprano Miriam Abramowitsch and pianist George Bath have been playing together for 17 years. Their performance on June 22 will feature songs by Korngold, Poulenc, Bartók and Kodály. Crocker Classical Concerts are supported in part by Capital Public Radio.
