FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Crocker Appoints Two New Staff Members Museum welcomes Director of Education and Individual Gifts Officer July 9, 2008 - Sacramento, CA - The Crocker Art Museum has appointed Stacey Shelnut-Hendrick as Director of Education and Dr. Linda Farley as Individual Gifts Officer. Shelnut-Hendrick recently returned to the Crocker as the Director of Education, a role in which she previously served before leaving in 2004 to become the Executive Director of the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House in Baltimore. A respected museum professional with more than 18 years of experience in museum education, she brings to the Crocker knowledge garnered from tenures at the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Children's Museum and the Studio Museum in Harlem. Shelnut-Hendrick earned a Master of Science degree in Museum Education from Bank Street College of Education, New York. "My goal is to make the Crocker transparent for a variety of people," she says. "I want to create an environment where people can find their own place within the Museum." As Director of Education, Shelnut-Hendrick is focused on audience development and creating progressive education programs for the new building, including dedicated spaces for art making and interactive gallery space. Linda Farley has spent the last 13 years in Denver, working primarily as the Executive Director of the Children's Museum of Denver and as the Chief Fund Development Officer for the American Red Cross Mile High Chapter. She holds a doctorate in education from the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis. Her role at the Museum is to grow and enhance the Director's Circle program, comprised of the Museum's highest supporting members, foster donor relationships and work with the capital campaign team as efforts are broadened to include a public phase. "The new Crocker will positively impact the city in ways we do not yet realize," says Farley. "The Museum is a leader in the effort to revitalize Sacramento, and I am thrilled to be part of the effort." The Crocker Art Museum was founded in 1885 and continues as the leading art institution for the California Capital Region and Central Valley. The Museum offers a diverse spectrum of special exhibitions, events and programs to augment its collections of California, European and Asian artworks. The Crocker is located at 216 O Street in Downtown Sacramento.
