Crocker Promotes Three Employees Within Curatorial

September 10, 2008 - Sacramento, Calif. - The Crocker Art Museum is pleased to announce the promotion of three employees within the curatorial department: Scott A. Shields, William Breazeale and Diana Daniels.

Scott A. Shields has been promoted to Associate Director and Chief Curator at the Crocker. Shields received his doctorate from the University of Kansas, with an emphasis on American Paintings 1825-1940, and he has 15 years of professional experience in museums located in the Midwest and Bay Area. Shields has curated numerous exhibitions and written articles for various scholarly journals. Most recently, he curated the Crocker's Edwin Deakin: California Painter of the Picturesque exhibition on view at the Nevada Museum of Art, Reno through October 5.

William Breazeale has been designated Curator at the Museum, with special concentration in European art. A specialist in Old Master drawings, Breazeale received his doctorate from the University of Maryland with a dissertation on Italian 16th-century sketchbooks after the Antique. Having lived in Italy, most recently under the Fullbright Full Grant program, he has studied the art and literature of the country since his undergraduate days at John Hopkins University. He curated the traveling exhibition The Language of the Nude: Four Centuries of Drawing the Human Body and co-authored the exhibition catalogue with three colleagues in the field.

Diana Daniels has been appointed Associate Curator at the Museum. At the Crocker since 2001, she has assisted in the development of major traveling exhibitions and independently curated diverse exhibitions for the Museum. She has also succeeded in growing the Crocker's interest in and acquisition of contemporary, photographic and African and Oceanic arts. Daniels holds a masters of art in art history from University of Kansas, Lawrence. At the Crocker, Daniels' primary focus is contemporary art. Most recently, she curated American Pop: Featuring Andy Warhol's Athletes from the Richard Weisman Collection on view at the Crocker through November 2.
