FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mass Meditation on Peace March 16, 2009 – Sacramento, Calif. – The Crocker Art Museum will host a Mass Meditation on Peace in the Museum’s Courtyard on Sunday, April 19, starting at 3 p.m. to mark the closing of Buddha. Lama Jinpa and Michael Halfhill of the Lion’s Roar Dharma Center will guide participants in a mantra chant followed by silent meditation. The ceremony will begin with a traditional music performance and an introduction to the chanting process. “The closing ceremony will be a form of satsanga, which is a Sanskrit word for ‘fellowship of truth’” said Halfhill. “This time will be a coming together to honor our higher selves or, in this case, our Buddha nature and will include meditation, mantra and chants for world peace, harmony, prosperity and compassion. Our chanting voices send out the vibration of compassion and loving kindness that embraces the world.” Buddha, on view through April 19, brings together works from 11 Asian countries to explore the variety of Buddhist belief as revealed through 40 representations of the many buddhas. “This exhibition has enjoyed great popularity since its debut,” comments Lial A. Jones, Director, Crocker Art Museum. “Individuals are looking for places to relax and escape during these times of economic turbulence.” Admission to Buddha is $6 adults, $4 seniors, $3 students and free for children age six and under. The Mass Meditation ceremony is free and open to all ages. Some seating will be provided, and guests can bring cushions or blankets. Guests should enter through the Courtyard gate on Third Street.
