FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Financial and Estate Planning Seminar Tuesday, May 19, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. April 16, 2009 – Sacramento, Calif. – The Crocker Art Museum hosts “Financial and Estate Planning for Art Collectors,” an informative and interactive seminar specifically addressing financial and estate planning issues for art collectors. Attorney Don Poole, accountant Ron Pomares and the Crocker’s Associate Director and Chief Curator Scott A. Shields will lead the presentation at the Museum on Tuesday, May 19, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. As an art collector, what will happen to your collection if you die without specific instructions covering your collection? What records should you maintain on art purchases or inherited works? Participants will learn the steps necessary to transfer works of art to family members, friends or charity and how their decisions impact income and estate taxes. Poole is a member of the Estate Planning and Probate legal team at the Sacramento office of McDonough Holland & Allen PC. Poole’s practice consists of probates, including contested matters, and all manner of general business advice. He supervises all associate attorneys in areas of corporate, tax and probate. He currently serves as a member of the Crocker Art Museum Foundation Board. Pomares is a principal of Pomares Gardner, an accountancy corporation in Sacramento. He has been a practicing accountant for more than 40 years, and he is regularly called on to testify as an expert witness in valuation, accounting and tax trials. Pomares served as President of the Crocker Art Museum Association Board from 1994-95. Shields is the Associate Director and Chief Curator at the Crocker Art Museum. He has 15 years of professional experience in museums in the Midwest and San Francisco Bay Area and has curated numerous exhibitions and written articles for various scholarly journals.
