FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Spotlight on Harpsichord and Saxophone August 24, 2009 – Sacramento, Calif. – Harpsichordist Nancy Metzger and saxophonist Keith Bohm will perform for the Crocker Art Museum’s Classical Concert Series on Sunday, October 25, 3-4 p.m. Metzger will perform pieces by Bach and Händel. As a soloist, she has performed recitals in Cape Town, Williamsburg, Oxford and Hong Kong. As an educator, she has championed expressive harpsichord playing for more than 25 years and is widely known as the author of Harpsichord Technique: A Guide to Expressivity, now in its second edition. Her solo harpsichord CD, Wine for the Soul, has been described as “ravishing music performed by a compelling harpsichordist.” Saxophonist Keith Bohm will follow with a performance of 20th-century pieces by Grigorij Kalinkovich and Jean Matitia. Bohm is noted for his “virtuosity” and “expressive playing,” and he has performed recitals in major cities across Europe and the United States, including a live broadcast performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. He is currently Professor of Saxophone at California State University, Sacramento, and artist affiliate in saxophone at the University of California at Davis. For more than 50 years, the Crocker has hosted internationally renowned and talented local musicians for Crocker Classical Concerts. Due to construction for the Museum’s expansion, the concerts now take place on the California State University, Sacramento, campus in Capistrano Hall. Concerts are held on the fourth Sunday of every month from 3-4 p.m. and are free to members of the Crocker Art Museum, $12 for nonmembers and $5 for students and seniors. Free parking is available in Parking Structure I, which is adjacent to the Hall. This performance is sponsored by the Mu Phi Epsilon International Music Fraternity.
