The first Nepalese film to be nominated for an Academy Award, this epic adventure of survival is also a narrative about Nepalese traditions and daily life. Before the screening, Sacramento State Professor of Asian Religions & Cultures, Joël Dubois, will discuss the cultural significance of Buddhism, Hinduism, and other religions in Nepal. Dubois received a doctorate in Comparative Religion from Harvard University, with a focus on South Asian Hindu and Buddhist traditions. His research has focused on the way authoritative texts influence the day to day religious practice and culture of ordinary religious people. Space is limited.
