The Newars of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal are renowned for their skill as artisans, creating both Buddhist and Hindu sculptures and paintings. While they were influenced by Indian Pala art of the period, their workmanship was sought for inclusion in Tibetan monasteries. This exhibition will include approximately 40 bronzes, manuscript paintings, ritual objects, and stone sculpture drawn from private California collections and the collection of the Crocker Art Museum.
