M. C. Escher: Rhythm of Illusion

Delving into the world of M. C. Escher requires journeys through mazes of jolting angles, uncanny perspectives and dizzying multiple viewpoints. It seems an act of genius to bring these ultimate contrasting elements into rational balance or symmetry, and this ability has made Escher one of the most popular and intriguing artists of the 20th century. In his work, we recognize his keen observation of the physical world, through metamorphosing shapes and objects into different forms, and creating impossible architectural fantasies appealing to the imagination. His ability to transport us into the realm of his own interior fantasies brings us into a wondrous and fascinating alternate reality brought to paper. This exhibit probes M. C. Escher’s world, examining 70 works of art through themes such as forms in space, experiments in perspective, landscape and fantasy scenes.
