The 75th Crocker-Kingsley:
California’s Biennial

January 10 – February 6, 2009

The Kingsley Art Club in cooperation with the Crocker Art Museum sponsors a biennial juried exhibition. While normally held at the Museum, the exhibition will be held at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria in Downtown Sacramento due to construction for the Museum’s expansion. This year celebrates the 75th Crocker-Kingsley exhibition. The first was held in 1927. The show was first juried in 1940, a tradition that continues to the present day. Past exhibitors have included many premier names in American and California art, including Robert Arneson, Kathryn Uhl Ball, Elmer Bischoff, Fred Dalkey, David Gilhooly, Ralph Goings, Gregory Kondos, Roland Petersen, Mel Ramos, Ruth Rippon, Fritz Scholder and Wayne Thiebaud.

The show aims to attract California’s established artists as well as those just emerging on the scene. The exhibition is open to any artist currently living in California. Six cash prizes range from $250-$3,000 and are awarded for Best of Show, first, second and third prize, an honorable mention and a people’s choice award. The exhibition juror will select 30 two-dimensional and 30 three-dimensional works for display. Work will represent a diversity of media – painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and craft – in a range of artistic styles from representational to abstract to conceptual.
