Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating non-judgmental awareness in daily life. Mindfulness meditation can help parents and children feel better, sleep better, increase the ability to cope with stressful situations, improve self-esteem, and renew enthusiasm for life, work, and school. In this program inspired by the exhibition Celestial Realms: The Art of Nepal from California Collections, parents will learn how to integrate stress reduction into their lives, how to nurture the nurturer, and try simple mindfulness meditation and movement techniques. Instructor Denise Dempsey is a Stress Reduction Consultant and Educator who has taught Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction classes since 2003. She is a practitioner with Sutter Center for Integrative Holistic Health in Davis and Sacramento and is a co-founder of the Davis Holistic Health Center. Dempsey studied under the direction of Jon Kabat-Zinn, creator of the nationally acclaimed Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program, and has trained with the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts.
