The term "Rockwellian" is synonymous with idyllic images of an idealized America, but Rockwell also depicted the turbulence of the civil rights movement. Learn about his artistic process and study his images in their historical context. In this interactive workshop, teachers will tour American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell exhibition, learn about Rockwell's life and times, explore ways to bring Rockwell into K-12 history classrooms, and acquire visual literacy tools. Light refreshments will be served. Advance registration required by January 18.

Tot Land is an interactive space devoted entirely to families with children ages five and under, and features the Living Art Wall, an interactive touch screen for unparalleled creative play. All the activities are designed to enable little ones and their grownups to learn together through layered, dynamic, and playful experiences. The Early Childhood Resource Depot, located inside Tot Land, offers a host of resources that support a successful path to early literacy and creative thinking skills.

Story Trail is an engaging way for young children and adults to talk about art while they visit the Crocker. It features a captivating storybook that incorporates images and "characters" from the works of art in the Museum's permanent collection galleries. After checking out Birdy's Museum Adventure from the Admission Desk, the story leads families on an imaginative adventure, with stops at trail markers to look, discuss, and discover various aspects of the art on view. The story concludes in Tot Land, an interactive space designed especially for families with children ages five and under.

The Crocker Art Museum has partnered with the Sacramento Public Library to present Art Packs, containing an assortment of children's books, art materials, music, and games for ages five and under. Art Packs provide meaningful, developmentally appropriate ways for early learners to connect to and engage with the world around them through art.Each library branch within the Sacramento Public Library system has at least one Art Pack, and alternate Art Packs, including a bilingual (Spanish) Art Pack, are available through inter-library loan. To receive free admission for two to the Museum, all you have to do is show your library check-out receipt with the Art Pack listed. You may present your library check-out receipt as many times as you like for 30 days after the date on your receipt.
