 tell stories in pictures. For me\, the story is the first thing and the la
 st thing.' This concert is part of a series celebrating the exhibition Ame
 rican Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell through musical storytelling.
  Acclaimed jazz pianist Joe Gilman's unique concept album Americanvas sele
 cted 10 modern American paintings\, determined the original creative proce
 ss used to create each artwork\, and followed that same creative process t
 o compose pieces as vehicles for jazz improvisation. Gilman\, accompanied 
 by musicians from the Brubeck Institute\, will perform a composition from 
 Americanvas inspired by Norman Rockwell's paintings along with other art-i
 nspired selections. Gilman is the music director of the Brubeck Institute'
 s Fellowship\, a professor of music at American River College\, an adjunct
  professor of jazz studies at Sacramento State\, and was the music directo
 r of Capital Jazz Project for 14 years. Space is limited.\n$6 Members$10 C
