Embroidery is a needlecraft used throughout history to chronicle major and everyday events, as well as a medium used by contemporary fine artists. Learn seven foundational stitches while practicing on a large-format plastic canvas before stitching on fabric. You will be guided through the process of conceptualizing an embroidery project beyond the typical stitch sampler, from collecting references to designing a piece that chronicles a special event or experience.

About the Instructor: 

Bren Ahearn utilizes traditional needlework techniques to explore gender roles. His artwork has been exhibited internationally, and he enjoys working with students as they explore their own histories. He has a master's degree in textiles from San Francisco State University.
