Color and Design in Contemporary Painting

Ideal for those interested in contemporary art, in this class you will learn to appreciate contemporary art, gain an understanding of key basic art concepts, and try your hand at acrylic painting. We will cover color theory, the formal elements of composition, and the methods and materials of painting. Gain insight into how contemporary artists use principles of design, and review a short history of contemporary painting and its influences on local and regional California artists. The class will include an evening at Park Fine Art Gallery for a fun, casual gathering and an insightful examination of the instructor’s works currently on view.

About the Instructor:
Kristine Bybee is a native of Sacramento and was educated in Los Angeles. She regularly exhibits her paintings in local and regional galleries, most recently at the Pence Gallery in Davis, and her work is collected by private and corporate collectors. She is an art educator at the community college level and maintains an active practice of producing work for exhibition. Bybee will also co-teach The Power of Place: Capturing the Commonplaces of America with Jill Pease.
