Norman Rockwell considered "the commonplaces of America" the richest vein of subjects for art. In this special combination class, look in-depth at the exhibition American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell and learn sketching and painting techniques. After discussing the historical context to works on view, spend time in the studio depicting your idea of commonplace America using photographs.

About the Instructors:
Kristine Bybee is a native of Sacramento and was educated in Los Angeles. She regularly exhibits her paintings in local and regional galleries, most recently at the Pence Gallery in Davis, and her work is collected by private and corporate collectors. She is an art educator at the community college level and maintains an active practice of producing work for exhibition. Bybee will also teach Still Life in Pastel.

Jill Pease is the Docent Education Coordinator/Liaison for the Crocker and has worked in arts education for more than two decades. She is a credentialed community college instructor, a former co-director of the California Consultancy for Arts Education, and was awarded the California Art Education Association's Award of Merit in 2005. She has master's degrees in both German and art history from the University of California, Davis.
