During Women's History Month, learn about the impact women have had on the visual arts through guided viewing and discussion of works by female artists represented in the permanent collection. Is there a "female" perspective, subject, or style? Explore these notions by examining the advantages and disadvantages female artists experienced, some of their artistic responses to historic events, and the different creative approaches they took.

About the Instructor: 

Elaine O'Brien is a professor of art history at California State University, Sacramento. She has lectured widely in her areas of expertise with an emphasis on the art of women and others who are under-represented in art history. Her anthology textbook, Modern Art in Africa, Asia and Latin America: An Introduction to Global Modernisms, has been recently published.
