Guided Museum Tours

Guided Museum Tours are led by trained docents and feature works of art from the permanent collection and special exhibitions on view. At the end of the tour, each student receives a Free Family Pass, which enables students to return to the Museum, free of charge, with up to four people.

Educators who reserve a Guided Museum Tour will receive a Teacher Preview Pass in their confirmation packet, which is good for free admission for two people. Educators are strongly encouraged to preview Museum exhibitions to help shape a comprehensive learning experience for their students.

Guided Museum Tour themes for the 2012-13 academic year include:

Discover the Crocker
Grades K-12
This tour is the perfect general introduction to highlights in the Crocker's world-renowned collection.

Take Art Apart
Grades K-12
Students wil explore the basic building blocks of art - line, shape, color, value, form, and space - in this engaging tour.

Looking to Learn, Learning to Look
Grades K-12
Using focused observation, questioning, and group discussion, students will learn how to "read" two- and three-dimensional works of art from various artistic periods.

California Canvas
Grades 3-12
Ideal for those studying California history, this tour makes the state's past come alive. Students will learn about California's Native Americans, the Gold Rush era, and the emergence of California as a diverse and innovative state.

Art Today
Grades 6-12
Students will discover the many ways 21st-century artists creatively use materials and probe diverse personal, social, and political issues.

Availability:
Tuesday-Friday at 10 AM & 11 AM
1st & 3rd Tuesdays at noon & 1 PM

Alternate times are scheduled based on docent availability.

Duration:
Pre-K & Kindergarten: 45 minutes
Grades 1-12: 50 minutes

Group Size & Chaperones:
80 students maximum. For Pre-K and Kindergarten groups, one chaperone is required for every six students. For grades 1-12, one chaperone is required for every eight students.

Fees:
When reserved four weeks in advance, tours are $2 per student for groups in Sacramento County and $4 per student for groups visiting from outside of Sacramento County. Educators and required chaperones are free and additional chaperones are $4 per person. Payment is due at the time of tour.
