The Gerald Hansen Library
Works On Paper Study Center
Appraisals and Conservation

The Gerald Hansen Library offers a wealth of information on the visual arts, from reference works, historical studies, monographs, and catalogues raisonnés to Crocker Art Museum collections and exhibition catalogues. Traditionally, the library has aimed to provide resources relevant to the Museum’s collections of California and American art, European painting, and Old Master drawings. Also available are US and international museum collections and exhibition catalogues, as well as publications of commercial galleries and auction houses. The library maintains a selection of contemporary art and craft periodicals and has a growing collection of more recent publications on artists with California and West Coast connections.

The collection is non-circulating, but researchers and interested readers are welcome to consult materials in the reading room by appointment at (916) 808-8856 or library@crockerart.org. The library’s holdings may be searched here (sign-in is not required).

Works On Paper Study Center

The Crocker Art Museum is home to a renowned collection of works on paper, including European master drawings and contemporary photography. To protect these delicate works, they have limited time on view at the Museum. However, our Works on Paper Study Center is open by appointment for scholars and members of the public who wish to view and study certain works.

For appointments, please contact the Curatorial Department at curatorial@crockerart.org or (916) 808-5290.

Appraisals and Conservation

The Museum does not provide conservation or appraisal services. If you are interested in having a work of art appraised or conserved, we suggest that you consult a reputable art dealer, appraiser, auction house, or conservator.
